Paradiso Survival Guide 2019

By Brittany Hardman

We’re just under a week out from returning to the gorge. Your tummies are filled with butterflies. Anticipation and excitement are boiling inside of you. The only thing. What in the heck do I pack? What should I expect? No worries, I got your back, sis. I am, however, not including a food list as everyone's dietary needs are so vastly different. I suggest easy to snack on things that require little to no effort, but totally up to you!

The Essentials

  • Ticket -wristband AND camping pass
  • Passport (if traveling longer distances)
  • ID
  • Keys
  • Credit/debit card
  • Traveler's insurance
  • Medications - if you need to bring your prescription into the festival grounds make sure you have all the proper paperwork
  • Advil, Benadryl, Polysporin, Tums, Pepto, aloe vera
  • Sunscreen
  • First aid kit

Camping

  • Tent
  • Canopy
  • Hammer/mallet
  • String/rope
  • Reflective blanket - put over your tent to reflect the sun to prevent your tent from getting hot
  • Flashlight, headlamp, string lights (battery powered), lantern
  • Coolers - I recommend at least two, one for drinks and one for food
  • Rug/area blanket for the campsite
  • Camping chair or something to sit on
  • Table
  • Tapestries - they create great shade!!
  • Air mattress/foam mat
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillows
  • Campsite marker - flags are a great option!!
  • Generator - if you want, they come in handy but not a must
  • Cutlery/dishes - make sure they’re biodegradable or reusable! Don’t need that extra plastic in our oceans!
  • Camping stove - if you’re going to use one make sure you check fire restrictions and be very careful, be sure to bring a fire extinguisher too
  • Big water jug - avoid flats of water! There are tons of water refill stations in the festival and campgrounds

Knick Knacks

  • Batteries
  • Duct tape
  • Scissors
  • Portable ashtray - be careful with buds, it's the dry season!!
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Portable chargers - solar charging ones are a great option
  • Hand fans
  • Spray bottles
  • Lock for your tent
  • Lighters
  • Speaker
  • Disposable camera - saves your phone battery but you can still take photos, and since it's film, you won’t be able to see them until they’re developed, which is fun
  • Ping pong balls
  • Mirror - full length is always a nice option
  • Kandi
  • Earplugs
  • Gum
  • Cards
  • Camelback/hydration pack
  • Paper towel/ toilet paper
  • Dish soap
  • Lysol wipes

Personal Belongings

  • Sweater and sweatpants
  • Onesie
  • Towel
  • Rave shoes - I don’t recommend platforms as it is not worth the twisted ankle
  • Flip flops and camp shoes
  • Pjs, warm and cold
  • T-shirts and tank tops
  • Shorts
  • Socks and underwear x5
  • Toothbrush/paste
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Deodorant
  • Perfume/cologne
  • Pads/tampons
  • Condoms
  • Hairbrush
  • Razor
  • Shaving gel
  • Soap
  • Bug spray
  • Face mask - it’s pretty smokey at the moment
  • Glitter - make sure it's biodegradable!!
  • Makeup
  • Dry shampoo
  • Chapstick
  • Baby/makeup wipes
  • Q-tips
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Elastics
  • Sunglasses

Yes, I know that's a lot of information, but let me assure you all of those things are completely necessary. As this is my fourth Paradiso, I feel very confident you would need these items at least once during your time at the gorge. I hope this served as helpful for you. Remember spread the PLUR, stay hydrated, respect people's boundaries, help people out when they need it, and most importantly: have fun and stay safe! See you there!
