Surviving Hard Summer (AKA Hot Summer)

By Rebekah Gudino

Hard Summer Music Festival (HSMF) 2019 will quite literally be the hottest rave in SoCal. With temperatures reaching up to 90ºF, I have some tips on how to keep dancing all night while staying safe! Grab your water packs and setting spray and look over these 6 tips on how to make your Hard Summer the best festival yet.

1. Hydrate the week before

Drink plenty of water before, during, and after the event! Drinking plenty of water a week before some hardcore dancing can help prevent dehydration! During the event, make sure you are refilling your water packs and water bottles at water stations located throughout the festival because it will be HOT. Just because the music stops, doesn’t mean you should stop hydrating. Keep drinking water after the festival ends, because you seriously danced your booty off.

2. Fans and Umbrellas

A fast and fashionable solution to the sun beating down on you is umbrellas and fans! Fancy Unicorns make AMAZING durable parasols that help block the sun while still adding a cute accessory to your overall look! Shop parasols on the FRW website or at https://www.fancyunicorns.com.

3. Protect your skin

Hard summer starts early and ends early. This means that during most of the festival, the sun will be in the middle of the sky! Make sure you protect your skin from the harmful rays. Before you grab the glitter and the gems, prep with sunscreen or a moisturizer with SPF!

4. Water-proof your makeup

Don’t let that 2 and half hours of hard work go to waste! Make sure you use a waterproof primer to make your face stay on through the heat and dancing. A good idea is to also use waterproof mascara to avoid unwanted black streaks. To top off your look, go for a waterproof setting spray! An amazing one is Urban Decay’s “all-nighter."

5. Don’t go too hard, too fast

Be careful at the pregame! Alcohol and other substances can cause dehydration and with the high heat, it’s greater when you go cray-cray at the pregame. Just remember, you still have to wait in line to get into the venue and waiting in that line with no shade can get HOT. Be prepared and ease into the fun because remember, you have ALL night!

6. Bandanas for the dust

The speedway gets pretty dusty, especially on the second day. Make sure you grab a handy dandy bandana to protect your lungs from the dirt! It's just another fashionable way to help protect your body. Boom Boom Energy Inhalers are also a great idea to keep handy during a dusty event. They help keep your nose clear and boost energy. Both the bandanas and Boom Boom inhalers can be found on the Freedom Rave Wear website and app!
