With the state of the virus and rising infection rate, social distancing might not be enough to make an avid change. The CDC now recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are challenging to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

We know there is a lot of information out there, so we wanted to put together a quick information guideline for mask use during COVID-19.

According to the CDC (4/3):

US Total Cases: 239,279

US Total Deaths: 4,443

Source of Exposure:

Travel-related: 1,388

Close contact: 4,325

Under investigation: 233,566

How does it spread?

COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person-to-person in respiratory droplets from someone infected.

According to recent studies, they have found that there are a significant amount of people with COVID-19 that can transmit the virus before showing any symptoms.

What does this mean for me?

The good news is that by staying home, you are already doing half the battle!

By reducing contact with others, it lowers the chances of contamination and infection. While this might seem like a simple task, groceries and other responsibilities may make this problematic for long periods.

And this leads us to the question, what about masks?

With health recommendations changing, it is vital to understand the benefits and uses of wearing a mask.

Based on CDC recommendations, face masks should be on whenever going to areas of high community contact (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies).

Face Masks can be used to protect against larger droplets, saliva, or secretions spread through coughing or sneezing. The highly contagious nature of COVID-19 is due to the asymptomatic spread by those who don't get sick but are infected. We all must be extra cautious when entering public areas.

Face masks may not protect you from contracting the illness but it will help the spread of the infection.
